Proyecto Carey is a sea-turtle research and conservation project in the area of Parque Nacional Jaragua, an ecological reserve in the southwest corner of Dominican Republic. The project involves primarily the hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), commonly called carey in Dominican Republic. The hawksbill is an endangered species.
Below is a picture of a carey nestled in coral off the coast of Cabo Rojo. On its right front leg is a metal identification tag placed there as part of the study.

Below is a picture of Carlos Pérez rising to the surface after capturing a turtle. The turtles are brought on board the Xaragua, the project's 7-meter boat, for inspection, tagging, and release.

Below is a picture of Carlos Diez with a green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas). A small portion of the turtles captured near Cabo Rojo are green turtles, not hawksbill turtles.
